Chart a course. To apply for a real estate license, you must complete a course approved by the Indiana Real Estate Commission (IREC) that includes at least 90 hours of the pre-licensing Broker course. The State of Indiana will only grant a license to those who are 18 years old and have earned a high school diploma or passed an equivalency exam.

Test time. In addition to in-class assignments and tests, you must pass a written exam as required by the IREC. The commission's examination program is administered by the State of Indiana in locations around the region. To make an appointment to take the exam, call or e-mail at least four business days in advance:

Small price to pay. After you've passed the exam, you have 120 days to submit a license fee to the IREC and provide a sworn certification that a managing broker intends to associate with you.
